What is a "carputer"?
For a few decades, automotive manufacturers have been putting computers, of increasing complexity, into vehicles. In recent years, average citizens have been putting their own computers into vehicles. These range from full-size laptops and PC's all the way down to small, embedded systems and everything in between.
One of the problems facing the DIY carputer maker is a lack of good, consistent information. It is one thing to take a laptop and sit it on the seat next to you. It is something else to integrate one into the various systems within the vehicle. Documentation is lacking, each car company has their own "standards" which run on top of the mandated standards. So where does one turn for advice, information and help?
That is the purpose of this forum. Share wisdom gained, request knowledge of others and collaborate on projects. Whether you are building a simple MP3 player or a full-blown, ground-up embedded system tightly integrated with your ECM, someone may have already solved your problems or may need the solutions you've come up with.
That is what a "carputer" is and what this forum is about.
